Introduction
The Online Guide to Writing and Research focuses mainly on the challenges of writing research papers, like how to write summaries, abstracts, and critiques. It also has a section in chapter 3 on “Writing Essay Examinations.” There are different types of research writing that you might practice during your time at UMGC.
Two kinds of writing assignments the Effective Writing Center assists students with are the argumentative assignment and the article review or reaction paper.
An article review, or reaction paper, aims to present a neutral point of view on a topic. Both sides of the argument are discussed in this type of assignment.
The instructions provided in this chapter are intended to help you address the challenges of these two commonly seen assignments.
