Stay Informed About Safety and Closures at UMGC
If an emergency situation materializes, ranging from severe weather to a terrorist attack, the University of Maryland Global Campus community will be alerted and provided updated information through the following communication channels:
- UMGC homepage
- Emergency phone line (301-985-SNOW)
- MyAlerts, which sends notifications of emergency and weather-related closings directly to your cell phone, e-mail, and more
- Public address systems at UMGC Headquarters and the Academic Center at Largo
- Emergency radios, where available
In addition, the University of Maryland's Department of Public Safety has implemented an early warning emergency siren to provide instant notification to the College Park campus of imminent, dangerous conditions. When activated, all personnel are instructed to seek shelter in the closest building, preferably on the lowest level and in an interior hallway. Information on the alert status can be obtained via radio on 88.1 FM or 1640 AM, on UMD's website, or by calling 301-405-7669.
Please do not rely on the media for reports on UMGC operational status, as local media often confuses UMGC with other USM institutions and may erroneously report the university's status.
