Student Code Process

When a student is reported to Student Conduct for an alleged Code violation, the process for investigating these claims is as follows:

  1. A report of an alleged violation of the Code of Student Conduct is submitted to UMGC.
  2. An initial review of the alleged violation is completed by Student Conduct, which may include contacting the reporting party.
  3. Following the initial review and based on the reported behavior, Student Conduct will decide whether to move forward to a formal Code process.
  4. For cases that move forward to a formal Code review, students will have the opportunity for a one-on-one meeting with a member of Student Conduct or to appear before a three-person committee.
  5. At the conclusion of the formal Code process, students will be found responsible or not responsible, and if found responsible, will be assigned one or more sanctions.
  6. Students found responsible will have the opportunity to appeal the decision based upon the "grounds for appeal" listed in the Code of Student Conduct procedures.
