Graduate PLUS Loan Limit

You are not required to demonstrate financial need to borrow a Graduate PLUS Loan. However, it is based on your credit worthiness. If you are approved for a Graduate PLUS Loan, UMGC will offer you up to $10,000 per academic year, or the remaining cost after all other aid is applied, whichever amount is lower. If additional funding is needed, you may request additional PLUS Loan funding.

Please note: Graduate PLUS Loans are subject to adjustments due to less than full-time enrollment. For additional information, please visit our One Big Beautiful Bill Act webpage.

Loan Terms

The interest rate for Direct PLUS loans disbursed between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026 is 8.94 percent. A 4.228 percent origination fee will be deducted by the U.S. Department of Education from the total of your loan before it is disbursed to your student account.

Master Promissory Note

First-time Grad PLUS borrowers are required to complete a Grad PLUS MPN. You will only need to complete this once, unless your loan is approved with an endorser. Endorsed loan borrowers must complete a new MPN for each new endorsed loan. Complete your MPN here.

Repayment

Although your Grad PLUS loan payments will remain deferred while you are enrolled in at least half-time status at UMGC, you are able to begin repayment at any time. If you drop below half-time status or withdraw from the university, your loan may go into repayment immediately.

For more information consult the Department of Education’s guide to repaying your federal student loans.
