I recently began my graduate program at UMGC and am currently enrolled in, or have completed, a course already. Am I eligible for this savings program?

No, only students who are enrolling in a new graduate degree or certificate program on or after May 27, 2021, are eligible to receive this scholarship.

Can I receive this scholarship in addition to other UMGC awards?

This savings program can be combined with the $75 Back to School Award but cannot be combined with any additional UMGC discounts, including the FED Program discount.

Is the scholarship refundable to me?

No, the discount is applied to tuition charges only and is not refundable to students.

Do I have to have completed my undergraduate degree at UMGC to earn this tuition savings?

No. All UMGC alumni are eligible, which means you must have completed a degree or certificate program with us at any level prior to enrolling in a new graduate program or new graduate certificate on or after 5/27/21 for the summer 2021 or fall 2021 semesters.

What happens if I drop or withdraw from a class?

If you drop a course, your scholarship for that course will be automatically removed from your account. If you withdraw from a course, your discount may be prorated to account for any changes in tuition charges for that course.

What happens if I receive a grade of F or FN for a class?

You will still be charged tuition for these courses, and your scholarship will still apply. The discount will apply to repeated coursework.

Can I receive this scholarship for more than one active graduate or certificate program?

If you choose to pursue more than one graduate degree or certificate program simultaneously, you must elect to do so before the end of the fall 2021 semester. Your discount will not be applied to any additional programs that you add to your academic record after this timeframe.

Q: Can the scholarship be applied to any graduate degree or certificate program, including doctoral programs?

This scholarship can be applied to any new graduate degree or graduate certificate program but cannot be applied to doctoral programs.

University of Maryland Global Campus announced the Fresh Start Program to help encourage students to continue with their education after a challenging year featuring challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic and more. This suite of scholarships and awards was available for new students in Summer 2021 and Fall 2021. If you received an initial reward, read the information below to find out if you are eligible for continuing disbursements for the applicable programs.

Welcome to MD/Better Together Scholarships

UMGC's Welcome to MD Scholarship provides eligible out-of-state undergraduate students a $100 per-credit scholarship off the out-of-state tuition rate.
UMGC's Better Together Scholarship provides eligible out-of-state undergraduate students in Washington D.C., and Virginia—our local community—a $100-per-credit scholarship off the out-of-state tuition rate.

Back to School Award

Through the UMGC Back to School Award, we covered the $75 cost of (0 Credits, UCSP 615), our Orientation to Graduate Studies course.

Note: this course must be taken within the first 6 credits of graduate study for all new graduate students, except those in programs requiring the introductory CBR, DCL, or PRO course.

Initial Eligibility Requirements

To become eligible for this award, you must

Be enrolled in a program that requires (0 Credits, UCSP 615)
Meet UMGC's graduate admissions requirements
Enroll for (0 Credits, UCSP 615) on or after May 27, 2021 and by the registration deadline of your intended summer 2021 or fall 2021 start date

Award Disbursement

For eligible students, the award amount of $75

Will be applied to your account within 48–72 hours of enrolling for the course
Will appear as item type on your account after you have enrolled for (0 Credits, UCSP 615) starting AND eligibility requirements have been verified

This award may be used for tuition only and is non-refundable. The award will be applied to your account prior to military or veteran's benefits.

Alumni Savings Program

UMGC is proud to offer a 10% scholarship on tuition charges for any UMGC alumni who completed a degree or certificate with us and are now planning to enroll in a new graduate degree or graduate certificate program in the summer 2021 or fall 2021 semesters!

How to Earn This Scholarship

You must have previously earned a conferred degree or certificate from UMGC with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
You must complete the UMGC Application for Admission.
Enroll in your first course (at least 3 credits) for a graduate degree or certificate program on or after May 27, 2021, for one of the following start dates:
- 6/16/21
- 7/14/21
- 8/18/21
- 9/22/21
- 10/6/21

Savings Program Details

Once you have met the initial eligibility criteria for this savings program, your 10% tuition scholarship will be applied automatically when you register for classes. You will be able to monitor your student account in your MyUMGC Student Portal. The scholarship will apply to tuition charges only, not to fees.

If your full tuition is covered by employer tuition remission, you will not be eligible for this tuition savings program.
