The online master's in management specialization in naval operations and national security at University of Maryland Global Campus gives you the opportunity to gain advanced operations and management skills. Build a solid foundation in human resources management, marketing, project management, and more as you prepare for management-level roles in the military and private sector.

Military-Specific Program: This program is only available to active-duty military servicemembers and veterans with transfer credits from select military education institutions.

Initial Requirement

    (to be taken within the first 6 credits of study)

The UCSP 615 requirement may be waived if you previously earned a graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution. For more information, contact your academic advisor.

Specialization Courses

Specialization coursework comes from the completion of Naval War College and will be added to your UMGC transcript once a review and approval for eligibility has been completed.

In addition, graduates of the nonresidential seminar program are required to take one course and graduates of the distance learning program are required to take three courses chosen from the following.

  • (3 Credits, NPMN 660)
  • (3 Credits, HRMD 610)
  • (3 Credits, HRMD 650)
  • (3 Credits, PMAN 634)
  • (3 Credits, PMAN 641)
  • (3 Credits, MRKT 600)
  • (3 Credits, MRKT 601)

Capstone Course

  • (3 Credits, MGMT 670)

  • You can take (3 Credits, MGMT 610) and (3 Credits, MGMT 615) instead of (6 Credits, MGMT 630).
  • (3 Credits, MGMT 610) must be taken within the first 6 credits.
  • (3 Credits, MGMT 640) and (3 Credits, MGMT 650) should not be taken at the same time.
  • You can take (3 Credits, MRKT 600) and (3 Credits, MRKT 601) instead of (6 Credits, MRKT 620).
  • You must complete 24 credits, including all core requirements, before enrolling in (3 Credits, MGMT 670).

General Master's Degree Requirements

  • You must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher at all times.
  • All degree requirements must be fulfilled within five consecutive years.
  • Any transfer credits must have been earned within the five-year time frame to be applied toward a graduate degree.

Additional Program Information

  • If you graduated from the nonresident seminar program of the Naval War College, you may be eligible to transfer 18 graduate credits toward a Master of Science in Management with a specialization in Naval Operations and National Security at UMGC.
  • Conversely, if you are a graduate of web-enabled distance learning program of the NWC, you may be eligible to receive 12 graduate credits toward the same degree.
  • To participate in this partnership program, you must have completed one of the two qualifying programs with NWC.
    • All coursework for the degree, including courses taken at NWC, must be completed within a five-year window; you must submit official transcripts from NWC for review, along with the transfer credit evaluation request form, to see if you meet the eligibility requirements.

Public Safety Student Association

The Public Safety Student Association encourages discussions on careers, current events, and topics within the public safety field. Activities have included webinars on related topics and careers. It is available to graduate or undergraduate students, alumni, staff, and faculty. Students and alumni can join the Public Safety Student Association group on CareerQuest

The UMGC Chapter of SVA offers information and support on benefits, academics, and policies. It also offers online and in-person fellowship for active-duty servicemembers and veterans.
