Reposition your military leadership skills and gain new competencies to transition to civilian organizations.

The online master’s degree in transformational leadership at University of Maryland Global Campus is designed for students with military experience who want to build on and maximize their leadership training to transition to civilian organizations such as corporate, nonprofit, and government organizations. Each course offers practical experience and uses workplace scenarios to apply strategic-thinking and decision-making skills in both group and individual activities.

Military-Specific Program: This program is only available to military servicemembers and veterans.

Transfer Credit Details: We accept up to 12 credits from selected professional military education institutions or exactly 6 transfer credits from other sources.

Total Credits Required: 36

Foundation Course

General Master's Degree Requirements

  • You must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher at all times.
  • All degree requirements must be fulfilled within five consecutive years.
  • Any transfer credits must have been earned within the five-year time frame to be applied toward a graduate degree.
  • Please review the overall master’s degree requirements for additional considerations.

Additional Program-Specific Requirements

  • All courses must be taken in the order listed.
  • You must complete each course with a grade of B or better to advance to the next course.
  • The grade of C is not available for these courses.
  • The courses in this program will have seven-day and 60-day options for the grade of Incomplete.

Additional Program Information

To be admitted to the program, you must meet the standard criteria for graduate admission and belong to one of the following military populations:

  • Full-time active-duty servicemembers
  • Members of the National Guard
  • Reservists
  • Veterans
  • Commissioned Corps members of the U.S. Public Health Service
  • Commissioned Corps members of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

You are responsible for providing the documentation necessary to verify your military status.

You are expected to have leadership experience from serving as an officer (noncommissioned or commissioned) in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Strong writing skills are encouraged in this program. 

If you are a civilian without military experience and are interested in developing your leadership and strategic skills, you are encouraged to pursue a Master of Business Administration.
