Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Eligible Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members can earn a scholarship of up to $3,000 from UMGC.

The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society is recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges as the official honor society for two-year colleges. If you are a University of Maryland Global Campus student, an alumni member of PTK in good standing, and meet all the scholarship criteria, you may be eligible to receive a scholarship of up to $3,000, as annual funding allows.

How to Apply for the PTK Scholarship

Each spring, eligible students will receive an invitation to submit the UMGC Scholarship Application in the To Do List of their MyUMGC Student Portal. For consideration, please submit your application by the annual priority deadline of June 15.

Eligibility Requirements

In order to meet the eligibility requirements for this scholarship, you must

  • Be a Phi Theta Kappa alumni member in good standing; your alumni membership with the organization will be confirmed
  • Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for the current year
  • Meet the requirements for Satisfactory Academic Progress at UMGC
  • Enroll in a degree or certificate program
  • Have completed a minimum number of credits at UMGC toward your program:

Preference is given to prior year recipients, graduate students, and students with out-of-state residency status. Other factors considered include Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and financial need as determined by the FAFSA, as well as progress toward degree completion.

Scholarship Details

This scholarship can be offered to both undergraduate and graduate students. A select number of students who best meet the eligibility criteria (typically around 10 students per year, depending upon annual funding allocation) will be selected to receive up to a maximum of $3,000 for the year ($1,500 for the fall term and $1,500 for the spring term).

This scholarship cannot be moved between terms and is not offered in the summer or winter terms. Recipients will receive email notification upon selection. Students must continue to meet all eligibility criteria listed above for each term of the award.

To avoid cancellation, recipients must maintain half-time enrollment in program-applicable credits each term.
