Cyber Scholarship Program

A unique program that offers UMGC cybersecurity students an opportunity to earn full scholarships.

If you are an undergraduate junior, undergraduate senior, master's student, or doctoral student at University of Maryland Global Campus, you may be eligible for a full scholarship opportunity thanks to the U.S. Department of Defense’s Cyber Scholarship Program.

How to Apply

  • Complete the Cyber Scholarship Program application.
  • Complete the supplemental materials listed in the application; the resume must follow the specific DoD template

Please allow sufficient time to complete the application, as it is very detailed and requires a significant amount of supplemental content, including a personal statement, resume, two letters of reference, and possibly additional documentation.

This program is administered by the National Information Assurance Education and Training Program of the National Security Agency, on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense. The Center for Security Studies at UMGC is the point of contact for students at UMGC who wish to apply for this scholarship program. You can review the scholarship application or the supplemental documents at any time on the DoD website.

If you have any questions, please email css@umgc.edu and include "CySP Scholarship" in the subject line.

Additional Information

Visit the DoD Emerging Technologies website for more information about the Cyber Scholarship Program.

Award Info

Students selected as Cyber Scholars will receive scholarships covering the full cost of tuition, course-required materials, required fees, and a stipend. The stipend levels are $27,000 for undergraduate students and $32,000 for graduate students.

Award Renewal

Additional years of scholarship awards are dependent upon satisfactory academic progress, internship performance (if applicable), and the availability of funds. Returning students will be given priority over new students to the program if they continue to meet the program requirements and funding is available.

Employment/Service

As part of the program, you will receive cyber-related internship experience during breaks in your studies. In addition, Cyber Scholars will be required to complete one year of service to the U.S. Department of Defense, upon graduation, for each year or partial year of the scholarship received. There is an option to fulfill this requirement through military service.
