Cyber Scholarship Program

A unique program that offers UMGC cybersecurity students an opportunity to earn full scholarships.

If you are an undergraduate junior, undergraduate senior, master's student, or doctoral student at University of Maryland Global Campus, you may be eligible for a full scholarship opportunity thanks to the U.S. Department of Defense’s Cyber Scholarship Program.

The application window for this scholarship has now closed. Eligible students who wish to apply for the Cyber Scholarship Program must have submitted their application and supplemental materials by February 1, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Please note: Students are required to have completed one full academic year starting in Fall 2024 in order to be eligible for the program.

How to Apply

Please allow sufficient time to complete the application, as it is very detailed and requires a significant amount of supplemental content, including a personal statement, resume, two letters of reference, and possibly additional documentation.

This program is sponsored by the Department of Defense's Chief Information Office and administered by the National Security Agency. The Center for Security Studies at UMGC is the point of contact for students at UMGC who wish to apply for this scholarship program. You can review the scholarship application or the supplemental documents at any time on the DoD website.

If you have any questions, please email css@umgc.edu and include "CySP Scholarship" in the subject line.

Award Info

Students selected as Cyber Scholars will receive scholarships covering the full cost of tuition, course-required materials, required fees, and a stipend. The stipend levels are $27,000 for undergraduate students and $32,000 for graduate students.

Award Renewal

Additional years of scholarship awards are dependent upon satisfactory academic progress, internship performance (if applicable), and the availability of funds. Returning students will be given priority over new students to the program if they continue to meet the program requirements and funding is available.

Employment/Service

As part of the program, you will receive cyber-related internship experience during breaks in your studies. In addition, Cyber Scholars will be required to complete one year of service to the U.S. Department of Defense, upon graduation, for each year or partial year of the scholarship received. There is an option to fulfill this requirement through military service.
