Types of Exams

Here are some of the standardized exams that you may be able to take to earn credit at UMGC. You can also explore alternative testing sites located through the United States and learn how to obtain your score reports.

Please note: UMGC is not responsible for determining your prior knowledge or preparation for these exams. Approval to take exams does not guarantee award of credit. Other conditions, such as the appropriate score, must be satisfied. All estimates are based on current exams. If you have taken any exams in earlier years, please contact your advisor for more information about scores and equivalencies. All information on credit by exam is subject to change without notice.

Additional Information

  • UMGC also accepts credit for professional examinations listed in the American Council on Education Guide to granting credit.
  • We may accept credits by examination awarded by other approved institutions for courses that appear on an official transcript with a grade of C or better.
  • You can't attempt credit by examination if you are taking an exam for a course which already appears on your transcript.
  • Normally, no more than 6 examination credits will be accepted during your last 30 credits.
  • If you are pursuing a second bachelor's degree, you can't use standardized examination credit to satisfy the requirement for graduation that courses be taken at UMGC. If you have questions about credit by examination, contact an admissions advisor.
  • UExcel and Excelsior College exams are no longer offered, but if you’ve previously taken them you can still use the credit.
