This program combines laboratory skills and applied coursework with a biotechnology internship experience and upper-level study. Required Major Courses: 36 Credits

You must have completed 15 credits of lower-level science coursework prior to beginning this program.

  • You must have earned these credits at a community college or another appropriate institution.
  • These 15 credits must consist of the following:
    • 4 credits in general genetics with genetics laboratory
    • 7 credits in biotechnology applications and techniques with laboratory, chosen from biotechnology, biochemistry, cell biology, chemistry, genetics, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, physics, and virology.

Take the following courses at UMGC:

  • (4 Credits, BIOL 230)
  • (3 Credits, BIOL 325)
  • (3 Credits, BIOL 350)
  • (3 Credits, BIOL 357)
  • (3 Credits, NSCI 301)
  • Choose one of the following course options:
    • Two (3 Credits, BIOL 486A) courses
    • (6 Credits, BIOL 486B)
    • A Workplace Learning course, which must be taken concurrently with a new internship or work project related to your academic program. Prior program approval is required.
  • (3 Credits, BIOL 495)
