How do I enroll in multi-factor authentication (MFA) using Safari?

Prerequisites

Must be running Safari version 15 or later

Registration Steps

  1. Open Safari browser
  2. Click Safari in the menu bar
  3. Select Settings from drop-down menu
  4. Click on the Passwords tab
  5. To authenticate, type the macOS user password or use Touch ID to unlock the password vault
  6. Locate UMGC password entry
    • If it doesn't exist, click + to add an entry
    • Enter UMGC username, password, and URL 
    • Click Setup
  7. Double-click the password entry to open
  8. Click Setup next to the verification code field 
  9. In pop-up, do one of the following:
    • If you are already enrolled in 2FA/MFA, enter the verification code
    • If you are enrolling for the first time, use Setup Key or QR code
  10. Select Use Setup Key if prompted
  11. Follow the onscreen steps to complete the setup

Note: If you are unable to view the setup key or QR code, unenroll from multi-factor authentication on UMGC and re-enroll

Using MFA Code

  1. When accessing your UMGC account, you will be prompted for a verification code
  2. Click on the text area where you would normally type in the code
  3. Select an entry from Safari's suggestions
  4. Authenticate using Touch ID (or another method) to confirm identity
