How do I set up a passkey to sign into my UMGC account?

A passkey allows you to sign in using your device's face recognition, fingerprint, or PIN instead of a password.

Access the MFA Setup Portal

Set up Passkey

  1. Navigate to the Security Info Page.
    • Select + Add sign-in method.
      • Select Passkey.
      • A window will appear to initiate the Passkey set up, select Next.
        • Sign in faster with your face, fingerprint, or PIN. Create a passkey to sign into your Microsoft account. No passwords, apps, or codes needed.
  2. Follow the prompts on your device as follows:
    • A QR code will appear on the screen.
      • Scan the QR code that is displayed using the camera on your smartphone.
        • For Apple devices:
          • Hover your camera over the QR code.
          • Select the yellow "Save a passkey" button that appears below the QR code.
          • Choose where you would like to save your passkey, then select "Add Passkey"
        • For Android devices:
          • Hover your camera over the QR code
          • Select the "Create a passkey" button that appears below the QR code.
          • Choose where you would like to save your passkey, then select "Create Passkey"
    • If successful, a window to name your Passkey will appear on your computer screen. Name your Passkey, then select Done.
    • Passkey will show as an option on your Security Info Page. Going forward, if you select Passkey as your authentication method, you may use Passkey instead of entering a username or password.
