How do I set up the Authenticator App using the Google Chrome browser extension?
Prerequisites
- You must be already enrolled in MFA
- Install and update the Chrome browser to the latest version
- Install the Authenticator Chrome extension app
Registration Steps
- Navigate to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/
- Login using your UMGC credentials.
- On your computer, navigate to the Security Info Page.
- Select + Add sign-in method.
- Choose Microsoft Authenticator App.
- Select I want to use a different authenticator app.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- The Authenticator App - Scan the QR code pop-up is displayed
- To Scan the QR code, click on the Authenticator app extension icon in the browser toolbar.
- Note: The authenticator app icon in the toolbar is a QR code image.
- Click on the pencil icon to Edit.
- Select + next to Authenticator to register
- Choose Scan QR Code.
- Return to the Scan the QR code screen and use your mouse to drag over the QR code.
- Click OK on the pop-up screen ("mysignins.microsoft.com says...").
- Click Next on the Authenticator app – Scan the QR code screen.
- A pop-up will appear asking for a 6-digit code to validate the registration.
- Click on the authenticator app browser extension in the toolbar.
- Copy the 6 digit code
- Paste the code into the pop-up.
- Click Next.
- Registration is complete with a new authenticator entry in https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
- Authenticator app - Time-based one-time password (TOTP)
How to Use the Authenticator App Chrome Extension
- Click the Authenticator app extension icon on the browser toolbar.
- Copy the 6-digit code displayed.
- Paste or type the code into the designated MFA login window.
