UMGC Entrepreneurs Enable Change and Help Others Do the Same
Two UMGC alumnae—Ginger Miller and Qyana M. Stewart—saw gaps in support for the communities that they were most invested in. Instead of waiting for change to happen, they initiated it, using their entrepreneurial skills to create organizations aimed at filling the gaps. While their journeys are different, their purpose is the same: leveraging their own lived experience, education, and determination to empower others.
Miller is a former boatswain’s mate in the U.S. Navy, who created Women Veterans Interactive (WVI), which focuses on assisting women veterans in transition to post-military life. Stewart earned a master's in information technology from UMGC and a PhD in higher education leadership and policy studies from Howard University and has gone on to create GlobalForce for Girls (GFG) which focuses on facilitating the advancement of young women of color in technology. Learn how both are making an impact in their communities.
