We are so glad that you are considering applying to University of Maryland Global Campus, and we look forward to welcoming you. We offer a streamlined admissions process that does not require the SAT or ACT. New students and those students who have not registered for classes at UMGC in the past two years will need to complete the online application for admission and pay the application fee.

New Student Admission Criteria: Regular Status

In order to be eligible for admission to UMGC as a regular student, you must fulfill one of the following academic requirements:

  • Graduation from a state-approved or regionally accredited high school

  • Passing scores on a state high school equivalency exam, such as the GED

  • Graduation from a homeschooling or alternative high school program in compliance with state and local education regulations in the state where you were homeschooled or attended an alternative high school

  • Graduation from a non-U.S. high school with a credential evaluated as equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma by an approved international credential evaluation agency

If you have not completed high school, you can meet UMGC regular admission requirements by completing an associate's degree from an accredited postsecondary institution or at least 60 credits from an accredited postsecondary institution with at least a 2.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).

Submitting Your Transcripts and Other Documents

You must submit verification of your eligibility for admission to UMGC before the end of the term following the term in which you are admitted.

You are required to submit an official high school transcript or documentation showing that you have the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma unless you are in one of the following student categories:

  • You have not completed high school, but you earned at least 60 college-level credits or an associate's degree

  • For students applying to UMGC on or after March 30, 2020, you have earned at least 30 college-level credits; these credits can include military credits or standard exams like DSST, AP, and CLEP

Suspension or Expulsion from Other Institutions

A suspension or expulsion from another institution may affect your eligibility for admission. Please see our Undergraduate Admission Policy for more details.

New Student Admission Criteria: Provisional Status

You may be eligible for admission to UMGC as a provisional student if you fall under one of the two following categories:

  1. Within the last two years, you had a cumulative GPA of less than 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) from the last institution you attended, were on academic probation at the last institution you attended, or were academically dismissed from the last institution you attended

  2. You are currently attending a U.S. regionally accredited or state-approved high school and plan to enroll concurrently at UMGC; you must be at least 13 years old to apply

As a provisional student, you may enroll for a maximum of 7 credits during a fall, spring, or summer term.

After completing 7 credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher or graduating from high school, you may request a change to regular status by contacting an advisor.
