Many financial aid programs require you to demonstrate financial need, which includes calculating your cost of attendance. Cost of attendance consists of both direct (fixed) costs, such as tuition and fees, as well as indirect (variable) costs, such as transportation, computers, loan fees, personal expenses, and housing.
Your cost of attendance will vary depending on your program of study, your credits per semester, your residency, and your living situation.
The following charts offer an approximate cost of attendance.
For example: Meet John. He's an undergraduate student who plans to attend University of Maryland Global Campus half-time in order to earn his bachelor's degree in computer science. He's also a resident of Maryland, where he lives with his spouse.
John is taking 6 credits per term, 2 terms per year. In the example below, the tuition rate is $312 per credit, with a $15 fee per credit.
His annual cost of attendance would be calculated like this:
Category | Amount |
Tuition + Fees: Undergraduate, Maryland Resident | $3,924 |
Annual Living Expenses: Amount for Undergraduate Living on Own | $21,998 |
John's Annual Cost of Attendance | $25,922 |
All undergraduate students and most graduate students are considered to be attending half-time if they are taking 6 credits per semester. For the Master of Business Administration and doctoral programs, half-time is 3 credits per semester. Tuition charges are estimated based on students being enrolled for two semesters and can be adjusted after enrollment.
Tuition Rate & Fees | Undergraduate (6 credits) | Graduate (6 credits) | Specialty Graduate Programs (6 credits) | Doctoral (3 credits) |
Maryland Resident | $1,962 | $3,174 | $4,164 | $3,261 |
Non-Maryland Resident | $3,084 | $4,044 | $4,164 | $3,261 |
Military | $1,500 | $2,880 | $2,880 | $3,261 |
Living expenses are estimated based on you being enrolled in the fall and spring semesters of the academic year. They're adjusted if you enroll for fewer than these two semesters. Unless otherwise noted, expenses are the same for undergraduate and graduate students.
Type of Expense | Student Living with Parents | Student Living on Own | Students (less than half-time) | Military |
Room & Board | $4,392 | $14,170 | $0 | $4,252 |
Transportation | $200 | $200 | $200 | $200 |
Computer/Supplies | $500 | $500 | $500 | $500 |
Personal Expenses | $7,128 | $7,128 | $0 | $7,128 |
Annual Total | $12,220 | $21,998 | $700 | $12,080 |
