Credit for Military Rank

To be eligible for this opportunity, you must meet all three of the following criteria:

• Be a degree-seeking undergraduate student at UMGC
• Have a military rank of E5 through E9
• Be an enlisted U.S. servicemember or prior enlisted U.S. veteran (with less than 10 years since separating from the military as an enlisted servicemember)

UMGC students from the military community who meet the eligibility requirements for this program may potentially receive up to 12 credits equivalent to the following business, management, and leadership courses that can be applied toward any undergraduate degree or certificate program:

• Introduction to Business and Management(3 Credits, BMGT 110)*
• Organizational Leadership(3 Credits, BMGT 365)
• Organizational Collaboration and Teamwork(3 Credits, BMGT 484)
• Human Resource Management(3 Credits, HRMN 300)

* Students admitted prior to Fall 2025 will be awarded credit for BMGT 160.

You must complete an attestation form that will be provided to you (if eligible) in your UMGC student portal.

You must also submit your JST or CCAF military transcript to qualify for military transfer credit review.

By earning credit for your military rank and service, you can complete your degree faster and for less money.

Currently, UMGC is offering a selection of undergraduate business courses for military rank, as follows:

Military rank E5 — Earn up to 3 credits at UMGC:

• Introduction to Business and Management(3 Credits, BMGT 110)*

Military rank E6 or above — Earn up to 6 credits at UMGC:

• Introduction to Business and Management(3 Credits, BMGT 110)*
• Organizational Leadership(3 Credits, BMGT 365)

Military rank E8 or above — Earn up to 12 credits at UMGC:

• Introduction to Business and Management(3 Credits, BMGT 110)*
• Organizational Leadership(3 Credits, BMGT 365)
• Organizational Collaboration and Teamwork(3 Credits, BMGT 484)
• Human Resource Management(3 Credits, HRMN 300)

As a student, we recommend that you do not enroll in courses you may qualify for until your Academic Advisement Report/Degree Plan is complete. Please note that you will not be eligible for a tuition refund if you take any of the identified courses above and subsequently discover that these courses were eligible for credit for military rank.

* Students admitted prior to Fall 2025 will be awarded credit for BMGT 160.

At this time, military rank for credit is for undergraduate courses only.

If you are an active-duty commissioned or warrant officer in the U.S. Armed Forces who has not completed an undergraduate degree and served in the applicable enlisted ranks within the last 10 years, you may request consideration and evaluation for this opportunity through your advisor.
