What happens if my undergraduate GPA falls below 2.0?
At the end of each term, UMGC reviews your undergraduate cumulative GPA to determine your academic standing. Here's how it works:
- Satisfactory: Cumulative GPA is 2.0 or higher.
- Warning: Cumulative GPA falls below 2.0, but term GPA is 2.0 or higher.
- Probation: On warning and term GPA falls below 2.0. Course load is limited (7 credits/semester or 4/session).
- Dismissal: On probation and term GPA remains below 2.0. You will not be dismissed if your term GPA is 2.0 or better, even if your cumulative GPA is still under 2.0
Visit Academic Standing Status for Undergraduate Students for more information.
If you've been academically dismissed, you can request to return by showing show improved academic readiness.
- Submit a written petition that explains the steps you have taken to improve your academic success.
- Send official transcripts from all colleges or universities you have attended, especially any coursework completed after your dismissal.
- Reach out to Student Affairs at reinstatements@umgc.edu for guidance and next steps.
Note: Only two reinstatement requests are allowed within two academic years. If approved, you will return on academic warning and may need to take tutoring or a required course.
