What happens to my financial aid if I withdraw early?

If you withdraw, drop, or stop attending classes before completing more than 60% of your scheduled enrollment, UMGC is required to complete a Return of Title IV (R2T4) calculation.

The R2T4 calculation determines:

  • The portion of federal financial aid you've earned.
  • If any unearned aid needs to be returned.
  • Whether you owe UMGC if aid is returned.

An R2T4 calculation occurs if:

  • You withdraw from all classes before completing 60% of the semester.
  • Your last class is canceled, or you are disenrolled.
  • You stop participating in classes.

If you plan to return later in the same semester, no calculation is needed unless you don't return as planned. We will notify you of the results within 30 days of determining your withdrawal.
