- Introduction
- Students are advised to limit their course loads to conform with the demands of their employment and the time they have to prepare for courses.
- Academic Operations provides the official certification of a student's enrollment status. Statements of enrollment issued by any other office are unofficial.
- Enrollment Status for Graduate Students in Programs that Require Orientation to Graduate Studies at UMGC (UCSP 615)
- Given the time commitment required for graduate study, six (6) credit hours per term is the maximum recommended load for graduate students.
- Graduate students in programs that require Orientation to Graduate Studies at UMGC (0 Credits, UCSP 615) are considered full-time if they are registered for nine (9) credit hours, half-time if they are registered for six (6) credit hours, and less than half time if they are registered for three (3) credit hours.
- Students pursuing the DM, MBA, or Master of Science in Data Analytics who began prior to fall 2016 cannot take course overloads.
- Students who have a compelling need to take more than six (6) credit hours per term may submit to their advisor a written request to take one additional course up to three (3) additional credit hours. All requests for exceptions to the maximum recommended course load are subject to approval.
- Students who have any current grades of I, or who are non-degree or certificate-seeking are not eligible to take more than six (6) credits. Graduate students are required to maintain a GPA of at least 3.0.
- Enrollment Status for Doctoral Students, MBA Students, MS Cybersecurity Technology Students, and Graduate Students in Programs Requiring DCL or CBR 600
- Given the time commitment required for graduate study, six (6) credit hours per term is the maximum load allowed for graduate students. Courses in these programs are built on competencies developed in each previous course and in a defined sequence. Graduate students cannot take course overloads; no exceptions are granted to this policy.
- MBA Students, MS Cybersecurity Technology Students, and Graduate students in programs requiring Decisive Thinking, Communicating, and Leading (6 Credits, DCL 600) or Communicating, Problem Solving, and Leading in Cybersecurity (6 Credits, CBR 600) are considered full-time if they are registered for six (6) credit hours per term.
- Enrollment Status for Undergraduate Students
- Full-time status in a 17-week term requires enrollment in at least twelve (12) credit hours.
- Full-time status in a 14-week term requires enrollment in at least twelve (12) credit hours.
- Half-time status in a 17-week term requires enrollment in at least six (6) credit hours.
- Half-time status in a 14-week term requires enrollment in at least six (6) credit hours.
- Full-time status in a 4-week term requires enrollment in at least three (3) credit hours.
- In no case may a student register for more than eighteen (18) credit hours in a 14-17 week term or six (6) credit hours in a 4-week term without written permission from the appropriate academic unit. Written requests must be submitted to the DCAO or designee at least one month before the beginning of the term.
