Master management skills and best practices with a human resource management certificate.

The graduate certificate program in strategic human resource management is designed to help you gain practical, management-level experience in the theory, research, knowledge, and procedures used by HR executives, generalists, and specialists— and earn a credential that can help you stand out. The curriculum is designed to give you practical skills so you can become a strong decision maker and manager in any HR setting.

Total Credits Required: 15

Initial Requirement

  • (0 Credits, UCSP 615)
    (to be taken within the first 6 credits of study)

The UCSP 615 requirement may be waived if you previously earned a graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution. For more information, contact your academic advisor.

Core Courses

Take the following four required courses:

  • (3 Credits, MGMT 615)
  • (3 Credits, HRMD 610)
  • (3 Credits, HRMD 620)
  • (3 Credits, HRMD 630)

Choose one of the following courses:

  • (3 Credits, HRMD 640)
  • (3 Credits, HRMD 650)
  • (3 Credits, HRMD 651)
  • (3 Credits, HRMD 665)

Take these courses in the order listed.

Earn UMGC Credit for SHRM-CP & SHRM-SCP

If you earned the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification on Jan. 1, 2017 or later, you may be able to earn up to 6 credits for courses that are required as part of UMGC’s curriculum for graduate human resource management programs. The certifications articulate to UMGC courses as follows:

SHRM-CP:

  • (3 Credits, HRMD 610)

SHRM-SCP:

  • (3 Credits, HRMD 610)
  • (3 Credits, HRMD 620)
