Can I use financial aid from another school to take courses at UMGC?

If your home school is managing your financial aid and you want to take courses at UMGC, you'll need to follow their Consortium Agreement process. UMGC acts as the host school and does not award or disburse aid in this case.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be admitted to UMGC (you do not need to be in a degree program)
  • Confirm your home school's consortium policy
  • Get approval from your home school to take classes at UMGC

Steps to Enroll at UMGC Through a Consortium Agreement

  1. Meet with a UMGC Advisor to discuss course availability and determine if you can be admitted for the term.
  2. Contact your home school to start their consortium agreement process.
  3. Send any required forms to the appropriate UMGC office; either you or your home school can do this.
  4. Once admitted, register for the courses at UMGC that your home school approved.
  5. Pay your UMGC tuition and fees directly.

Important Reminders

  • UMGC will not award or disburse aid as a host school.
  • No FAA (Financial Aid Authorization) indicator will be added to your account.
  • You are responsible for paying your UMGC balance out-of-pocket or arranging a payment plan.
  • If you do not pay or arrange payment, you may be disenrolled from some or all of your UMGC classes.
  • Changes to your enrollment, including disenrollment, can affect your financial aid eligibility at your home school.
