What happens if I have a small unpaid balance on my account?

If you have an unpaid balance of $50.00 or less, it may be written off as an abatement. However, a hold will be placed on your account—ABT (Stateside), ABA (Asia), or ABE (Europe)—until the balance is paid. This hold can prevent access to certain services, such as requesting your diploma.

Before a small balance is written off, you’ll receive three reminder emails (called dunning notices). If the balance remains unpaid 15 days after the final notice, and the amount is $50.00 or less, it may be abated and a hold added to your account.

To resolve an abated balance:

  • Pay by phone: Call 800-888-8682 to speak with a Financial Solutions Advisor.
  • Pay online (if calling isn’t possible): Email collections@umgc.edu to request that the balance be re-posted to your MyUMGC account and the hold removed.
