How do I receive financial aid when taking courses at a school other than UMGC?
If you're taking classes at another school but want UMGC to manage your financial aid, you'll need to complete a Consortium Agreement. This process allows you to use your financial aid at both UMGC and the host school.
Eligibility Requirements
- Be a degree-seeking student at UMGC
- Have a FAFSA on file for the current aid year
- Be eligible for financial aid and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
- Submit a Permission to Enroll (PTE) form for each course you want to take elsewhere
- Be enrolled in enough total credits between UMGC and the host school to qualify for aid
Steps to Complete a Consortium Agreement
- Request a PTE form from your UMGC advisor (you'll need one per transfer course).
- Register for the approved course(s) at the host school.
- Complete Section I of the Consortium Agreement form.
- Send the form to the host school's Financial Aid office so they can fill out Section II.
- Submit the completed Consortium Agreement form and your class schedule from the host school to UMGC's Financial Aid Office by the last day of the semester.
Important Reminders
If your Consortium Agreement is approved, we will award and disburse financial aid based on your total enrolled credits across both schools. Aid will follow all applicable policies, and any extra funds will be refunded to you to pay the host school.
Be sure to:
- Submit your official transcript from the host school within 30 days of the course ending.
- Notify us if you drop or withdraw from any course.
- Your aid may be reduced if you don't send your transcript, drop a class, or if the course doesn't transfer for credit.
