Will I get a check in the mail if I receive a private scholarship?

In most cases, you won’t receive a check directly. Private or third-party scholarship checks are usually sent to UMGC, not to students.
When UMGC receives your scholarship:

  • The Scholarships Team reviews the agency’s eligibility rules
  • Funds are applied to your student account based on the agency’s instructions
  • If your account is fully covered and the agency allows it, you may receive a refund for any extra funds

To ensure proper processing, ask the agency to mail the check and Letter of Intent (award details) to:
