Why is online tuition different for in-state and out-of-state students?

UMGC is a Maryland public university, so in-state students receive lower tuition as a benefit of their tax contributions. Out-of-state students pay more to cover the full cost of education.

Even for online classes, tuition follows state funding rules. To qualify for in-state rates, you must meet Maryland residency requirements for at least 12 months. Some exceptions apply.
