How do I obtain my IRS tax return transcripts?

If your financial aid application requires a tax return transcript or proof you didn’t file taxes, you can request it from the IRS using one of these options:

Option 1: Get it online

  1. Go to www.irs.gov/transcript.
  2. Select Get Transcript Online.
  3. Verify your identity with:
    • A valid email address
    • A smartphone or computer with a camera
    • A photo ID and selfie through ID.me

Once verified, you can download your transcript instantly.

Option 2: Request by mail or phone

If you can't access the online tool, request your transcript:

  • Online by selecting Get Transcript by Mail
  • By submitting Form 4506-T
  • Or by calling the IRS

Tip: Request early—mailed transcripts may take several days to arrive.
