How much Federal Direct Loan aid can I borrow as an independent student?
As an independent student, the maximum amount you can borrow through Federal Direct Loans depends on your year in school and the total number of credits you have completed:
- First-Year Student (Enrolled in at least one academic year): $9,500 (max $3,500 in subsidized loans)
- Second-Year Student (Completed at least 30 credits): $10,500 (max $4,500 in subsidized loans)
- Third-Year or Higher Student (Completed at least 60 credits): $12,500 (max $5,500 in subsidized loans)
