What is the difference between Home and Host schools in a Consortium Agreement?

In a Consortium Agreement, your Home and Host schools play different roles, especially when it comes to financial aid.

Home School

  • Where you are officially enrolled and earning your degree (e.g., UMGC)
  • Considered a degree-seeking student at this school
  • Responsible for disbursing your financial aid
  • Requires approval for any courses taken elsewhere to count toward your program
  • Uses your Home ID, the student ID assigned by the Home School

Host School

  • Where you temporarily take courses
  • Not considered a degree-seeking student at this school
  • Does not disburse your financial aid
  • Expects credits to transfer back to your Home School
  • Uses your Host ID, the student ID assigned by the Host School
