What happens if my grades fall below a 3.0 in my graduate program?
To stay in Good Academic Standing, graduate students must maintain a term and cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. If your term and cumulative GPA drop below 3.0, you'll be placed on Academic Probation.
While on probation:
- You must repeat the course(s) that caused your GPA to drop.
- You can't take other courses until you earn a “B” or better in the repeated ones.
- You have two terms to raise your term and cumulative GPA to 3.0 or higher.
If you do not meet these conditions, you may face Academic Dismissal. Dismissed students may request a one-time reinstatement or, after five years, apply for a restart in a new program.
Doctoral students must earn a “B” or better in all coursework. Two grades below “B” will result in dismissal from the doctoral program.
