How much Federal Direct Loan aid can I borrow as a dependent student?

As a dependent student, the maximum amount you can borrow through Federal Direct Loans depends on your year in school and how many credits you've completed:

  • First-Year Student (Enrolled in at least one academic year): $5,500 (max $3,500 in subsidized loans)
  • Second-Year Student (Completed at least 30 credits): $6,500 (max $4,500 in subsidized loans)
  • Third-Year or Higher Student (Completed at least 60 credits): $7,500 (max $5,500 in subsidized loans)
