Can I earn credit for workplace learning?
Yes! At UMGC, you can earn academic credit through Workplace Learning (WKPL) by applying what you learn in class to real-world projects at your job. It's a great way to make your work count toward your degree or certificate.
Eligibility
Undergraduate
- Enrolled in a UMGC undergrad program
- 30 credits completed (6 at UMGC)
- 9 credits in your field
- GPA of 2.0+
- Job must involve new learning and real-world application
Graduate
- Enrolled in a UMGC graduate program
- 12 graduate credits completed
- GPA of 3.0+
- Job must align with your academic focus
How It Works
- Apply in MyUMGC: Go to Class Search & Registration > Workplace Learning to complete the application.
- Set Up Your Learning Plan: If you're eligible, you'll submit a learning proposal, sign an agreement with your supervisor and mentor, and complete orientation.
- Earn Credit: Complete your job tasks and academic assignments during the session.
- Undergrad: 3 or 6 credits over 15 weeks (up to 45 WKPL credits may be placed in major, minor, and electives)
- Graduate: 3 credits over 8 weeks
