Can I earn credit for workplace learning?

Yes! At UMGC, you can earn academic credit through Workplace Learning (WKPL) by applying what you learn in class to real-world projects at your job. It's a great way to make your work count toward your degree or certificate.

Eligibility

Undergraduate

  • Enrolled in a UMGC undergrad program
  • 30 credits completed (6 at UMGC)
  • 9 credits in your field
  • GPA of 2.0+
  • Job must involve new learning and real-world application

Graduate

  • Enrolled in a UMGC graduate program
  • 12 graduate credits completed
  • GPA of 3.0+
  • Job must align with your academic focus

How It Works

  • Apply in MyUMGC: Go to Class Search & Registration > Workplace Learning to complete the application.
  • Set Up Your Learning Plan: If you're eligible, you'll submit a learning proposal, sign an agreement with your supervisor and mentor, and complete orientation.
  • Earn Credit: Complete your job tasks and academic assignments during the session.
    • Undergrad: 3 or 6 credits over 15 weeks (up to 45 WKPL credits may be placed in major, minor, and electives)
    • Graduate: 3 credits over 8 weeks
