How do I receive credit for my prior military service?
UMGC values your military experience and may award college credit for eligible training, coursework, and service. To receive credit, submit your official military transcripts and supporting documents to UMGC.
Air Force and Space Force

CCAF Transcript Request (Active duty, Air National Guard, Reserve, Veterans)
Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Army
- Joint Services Transcript (Active duty, Reserve, Veterans)
- Marine Corps & Army NCOs: Submit Non-Commissioned Officer Evaluation Reports (NCOERs) to document MOS credit (one year in appropriate rank).
- Army Officers & Warrant Officers: May need DA Form 1059 or DD Form 295 from an Army Education Center.
Selected Reserve & DoD Schools
- Joint Services Transcript (Active duty, Reserve, Veterans)
- Some DoD schools (e.g., Defense Language Institute, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), National Cryptologic School) issue their transcripts. Be sure to request official copies.
- Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) scores must be requested separately.
Additional Options for Veterans & Active Duty
- DD Form 214 (if no transcript is available)
- MOS records, enlisted evaluations, or service-specific forms (e.g., DA Form 2-1, NAVPERS 1070/604)
- DD Form 295 (for enlisted personnel with training in multiple services)
- Military records can be requested from the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration.
