How do I prepare for virtual reality student orientation?

Get ready for live classes with VXR Academy by following these setup instructions for your VR headset and VictoryXR software before your in-headset orientation.

Charging Your Headset

Before you begin, charge your headset for at least 3 hours. Follow the instruction manual for brand-new devices and ensure it fits comfortably.

The ENGAGE Platform

The ENGAGE Platform is where your VictoryXR Academy classes happen in VR. Attend meetings, events, and social gatherings from anywhere.

To start, register for a free ENGAGE account with your UMGC email and verify it. Then download the ENGAGE app to your VR headset and follow the setup steps:

  1. Turn on your headset: Fully charge it, adjust the straps, and make sure images are clear.
  2. Set your play boundary: Use your hand controllers and follow prompts.
  3. Download ENGAGE: Open the App Library, visit the App Store, and search ENGAGE.
  4. Launch & log in: Open the app and log in to your account.
  5. Set up profile and avatar: Follow the in-app instructions.

ENGAGE can be accessed in two ways:

  • Web Dashboard: RSVP to class invites and view VictoryXR Academy invitations (Groups → Invitations).
  • App: Attend classes on your VR headset, mobile device, or desktop.

Accessing Your Digital Campus

  1. Accept your invitation via email or the Groups → Invitations tab in the web dashboard.
  2. Once accepted, resources appear in the ENGAGE app under My Groups.

Note: Your invitation should arrive by email before your student orientation.

Tech Basics: First Steps Tutorial

  1. Log in to ENGAGE via your headset.
  2. Select Start Session from the home page.
  3. In My Groups, select your school's group.
  4. Search First Steps → Tutorial using your hand controller and select Just Me.
  5. Complete the guided tasks to learn movement, hand controllers, and menus.

Note: These tasks help you get comfortable with movement, controllers, and the menu in the virtual environment.
