How do I apply for a Parent PLUS Loan?
Parents of dependent undergraduate students can apply for a Parent PLUS Loan to help cover education costs. Follow the steps below to apply:
- Submit the FAFSA: Your student must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA form). You must have an FSA ID to complete the FAFSA. If you do not have one, you can click here to request one.
- Apply for the Loan: Parents apply online at Apply for a Direct PLUS Loan
- Complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN): If approved, sign the Parent PLUS MPN.
- Credit Check: A credit check is required. If you have an adverse credit history, you may still qualify with an endorser or by documenting extenuating circumstances.
- Loan Disbursement: Funds are sent to the school. Extra funds, if any, are refunded based on your preference.
