
John Thompson III
Director, In-State Maryland Operations
John Thompson III currently serves as the Director of In-State Maryland Operations. In this role, he provides vision, leadership, strategic oversight, and direction for UMGC's staff and coordinates the university's on-site operations at civilian locations, Regional Higher Education Centers (RHEC’s), and military installations in the District of Columbia and Maryland. Mr. Thompson began his career as an Admissions Counselor in 2016 and has since led teams in Admissions, the Office of Student Affairs, and Stateside Military Operations.
Mr. Thompson is an active member of the UMGC and University System of Maryland (USM) communities. He has served on the UMGC Staff Diversity Advisory Council, as the inaugural Director of Diversity Awareness for the Black and Indigenous People of Color (B.I.P.O.C) Inclusion Network, Chair of the Staff Resources and Special Projects Committee on the Council of University System Staff (CUSS), and as a primary voting member of the Adelphi Staff Advisory Council (ASAC). He has adjudicated on scholarship committees for the UMGC Veteran’s Initiatives Office and the Universities at Shady Grove.
