Maurice Hicks

On October 15, we featured Maurice Hicks, a former police officer, award-winning writer, and UMGC alumnus. Maurice’s life started in the violent streets of Baltimore, but he soon found his passion in education and police work. Starting in the military, Maurice worked his way up to becoming a lead investigator with the FBI, and now owns his own private detective agency in the same rough neighborhood where he grew up. He is currently writing his second book, a biography of his inspiring life.

Zachry Flores

On November 5, we featured Zachry Flores, a military veteran, UMGC alumnus, and current UMGC professor. From a young age, Zach knew he wanted to pursue a career in law enforcement. Without telling anyone, he enlisted in the military and became a military police officer. He went on to serve in Iraq, Afghanistan, Germany, and across the U.S. During his service, he sustained a brain injury but refused to let it hold him back. Today, he remains deeply committed to making a difference in the lives of his students and his children.
