UMGC students, faculty, and staff around the globe have long had access to our online library. There you'll find extensive collections of ebooks, reports, journal articles, data, and other research materials for your academic programs, all available online to support you wherever you are and whenever you need them.
Now, UMGC has expanded our library services, including updating our search system, OneSearch, to provide you with even more resources, tools, and data as well as offer live, 24/7 librarian support.
“In 2023, we updated the library website to provide a more user-friendly, "one-stop shopping" experience,” said Julie Harding, UMGC's director of library services. “We wanted to make sure that everything users would need was easily accessible from the library home page.”
Library Services
The UMGC Library is an online resource built from the ground up with your academic needs in mind. Along with our vast selection of digital materials that are immediately available online, including nearly 400,000 ebook titles that you can view or download, additional journal articles, books, and book chapters can be delivered online by request.
Whenever you need assistance, librarians are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year via online chat and by email. For those wanting to improve their research skills, the library offers up to 20 informational webinars each year. Recent topics include business research, Boolean searching, and APA citation.
“By offering more comprehensive and expansive library services, we strive to ensure that all students, regardless of location, have the resources they need to succeed academically,” said Harding.
OneSearch 2.0
This year, all University System of Maryland (USM) libraries have migrated to OneSearch 2.0, a new library system that is powered by Ex Libris Group's Primo system, to offer faster searching, easier discovery, and a more personalized user experience across all your devices. If you’re already familiar with OneSearch, you’ll notice OneSearch 2.0 has a new look and feel, but it will still give you everything you found in the previous version of OneSearch, plus a whole lot more.
"Our new Primo system provides a richer experience for users,” said Harding, “including access to more of our resources through OneSearch 2.0."
With OneSearch 2.0, you can simultaneously search more than 100 research databases related to education, news, business, healthcare, and much more. Through a single search engine, OneSearch lets you browse scholarly articles, peer-reviewed journals, books, charts, and other resources to help you uncover the information you need to excel in your UMGC courses.
