
Seth Powless, PhD, MBA, M.Ed., PMP

Dr. Seth Powless is a collegiate faculty member in the UMGC’s School of Business. With over 15 years of teaching experience including faculty positions at the University of Toledo, Earlham College, and Penn State University, Dr. Powless has experience in teaching research, and service in supply chain, operations management, project management, transportation and logistics, management information systems, leadership, marketing, human resources, and international business. Dr. Powless also has significant experience developing and directing degree programs in supply chain and operations management.
Dr. Powless’s industry experiences include over 18 years working in sales management, operations consulting, project management, education consulting, marketing technology, and logistics. Dr. Powless has served on several city planning, zoning, and parks commissions throughout Ohio, and currently serves as Chairman of the Board for a K-6 Montessori School in Dayton, Ohio as well as on numerous advisory boards.
Dr. Powless holds an undergrad BA in Political Science, an M.Ed. in Education, an MBA focusing on MIS and Operations Management, and a PhD in Education with a focus on Management all from the University of Toledo. Dr. Powless also holds both a CAPM and a PMP from the Project Management Institute.
An active, published researcher and presenter at organizations including Decision Sciences Institute, Production Operations Management Society, Transportation Research Board, and the Academy of Management, Dr. Powless’ research focuses on applying the Theory of Constraints to current industry challenges in supply chain, operations management, and project management. Dr. Powless is known pedagogically for his student centered, innovative approaches to student engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
