Author Biography

Mary E. Crowley-Farrell is an associate professor at University of Maryland Global Campus, where she teaches journalism, mass communications theory, media literacy, and a variety of composition and professional writing and editing courses. Previously, she was an award-winning daily news reporter covering Congress and the White House, an editor, and a publishing executive in Washington, D.C. She received a master's degree in communications as an Annenberg Fellow for the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Pennsylvania, and a bachelor’s degree in political science and communications from Douglass College at Rutgers University while an Associate Fellow at the Eagleton Institute of Politics. She completed pre-doctoral work in international relations as a Rotary Fellow at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. Crowley is also a 2025-2026 Generative AI Pedagogy Fellow at the University System of Maryland’s William E. Kirwan Center for Academic Innovation.
