Danielle Mead Skjelver, PhD, is a history professor and coordinator of the history capstone course series at UMGC. After a decade in finance, she wrote a national award-winning novel and transitioned to higher education. Her work today centers on building networks that support students, collaborating with colleagues across the university, and developing high-impact practices for students.
Skjelver is the lead editor of an interdisciplinary volume on the soldiering experience in the German Renaissance (De Gruyter, Forthcoming) and of History of Applied Science & Technology, an ongoing, open-access digital textbook. She is co-translator of Karl Jakob Skarstein’s The War with the Sioux, founder of UMGC’s International Undergraduate History Conference, and architect of a faculty-guided senior thesis network of more than 65 subject experts worldwide. Awards include the Stanley Drazek Teaching Award (2024) and multiple institutional recognitions for her work with student organizations.
Skjelver holds a PhD in history from the University of North Dakota.
