Biography

Barry Sugarman, PhD, MBA, serves as Interim Vice President for Integrative Learning Design at University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), where he leads a university-wide effort to design and implement UMGC’s AI-enabled Next Generation Learning Model.

With more than 30 years of experience across higher education, technology, and digital publishing, Sugarman brings a track record of driving institutional transformation and growth, including prior leadership as Vice President for Learning Platforms with AccelerEd, Vice Provost and Dean of the School of Lifelong Learning at Walden University, and founder of Laureate Education’s Center for Global Faculty Excellence. As Chief Academic Officer at Divine Mercy University, he led a successful digital expansion that grew enrollment more than tenfold. His career also includes roles in global program design, including co-creating an MBA for the Anahuac University Network, and leadership positions in major technology and information organizations such as LexisNexis and the National Academy of Sciences.

Sugarman holds a PhD in education from Columbia University, an MBA in marketing from Pace University, and a BA in psychology from the University of Rochester.
