Your unique goals and scheduling preferences determine whether an accelerated class is a good fit. 4-week classes can be a great way to complete required courses, fast-track degree completion, and enhance funding and scheduling opportunities. Because the fast pace of these courses can be challenging, we encourage you to explore your best options with your advisor, success coach, or military education coordinator before enrolling.
No. While 4-week courses move at a faster pace, the course requirements, assignment workload, and expectations remain the same. You will be doing the same amount of work in four weeks that you would otherwise do in 8 weeks.
UMGC wants to make sure students are set up to succeed. 4-week sessions move at a challenging pace, so students should only register for 3 credits during each accelerated session and avoid overlapping 8-week courses. However, many 4-week courses can be taken back-to-back, providing the opportunity to advance degree requirements at a quicker pace.
Due to the enhanced expectations of a 4-week class, we encourage you to contact your advisor, success coach, or military education coordinator at studentsfirst@umgc.edu or 800-888-8682 to discuss your best scheduling options beforehand. Overseas students can also contact their local Asia or Europe representative. If you are confident that an accelerated course is a good fit, you can also self-enroll through your student portal.
