Pillars of Strength Scholarships Help Caregivers Pursue Higher Education, Advance Lives Put on Hold and Secure Their Family’s Futures.

For RSA Scholar Jean Menard, scenes in a movie were the catalyst for launching a lifelong journey. As a high school student in his native Haiti, he watched Die Hard II—but it wasn’t the action or explosions that caught his attention. That moment of curiosity became the first steppingstone in the path toward a career in cybersecurity.

Wayne Krumwiede, now aged 96, said his career climb would not have been possible without the degree he received from UMGC, stating simply that “education made me a better person.”

It is the Largest Number of Scholarships Awarded in a Single Year Since the Program was Established in 2013.

Because of Alexander Abel’s three-pronged “Sprouting Sustainability” project, he has become the first UMGC student named a Langenberg Legacy Fellow by the University System of Maryland.

UMGC alumnae Clarissa Peterson, along with her husband Edward Archer, honors Peterson’s mother with scholarship that supports students in STEM fields.
