Innovative program awards academic credit based on experiences and skills that servicemembers gain as they rise through the ranks in the military.

The top finisher on the Forbes list of America’s most cybersecure banks is Flushing Bank, a regional institution serving New York City whose chief information security officer (CISO) is Richard “Rick” White, adjunct professor in the School of Cybersecurity and Information Technology at University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC).

The long-time faculty member’s most interesting assignment in the early ’70s was teaching aboard the nuclear submarine supply ship that was moored off the west coast of Scotland.

The agreement encompasses all 700+ businesses in the chamber and the organization’s employees and their families.

Following a nationally competitive application process, UMGC cybersecurity student Dhiraj Lamsal was among the 15 individuals selected by the U.S. Department of State for the fellowship’s 2024 cohort. The two-year FAIT program is a pathway to a career in the Foreign Service, culminating in an appointment as a diplomatic technology officer.
