Sitting presidents from Dwight D. Eisenhower to Joe Biden commend UMGC for its service to the U.S. military and expanding role in higher education.

University of Maryland Global Campus captured second place in the first round of the annual National Centers of Academic Excellence (NCAE) Cyber Games’ competition for the Northeast Region. UMGC finished in the top spot in the Capture-the-Flag component of the event.

In 1949, UMGC sent faculty overseas to teach U.S. troops stationed in postwar Europe. Today, that tradition continues, and the university’s global footprint positions it to transform lives—and the world at large—in new and sometimes surprising ways.

Nick DiMichele, building on a degree he earned from UMGC and the opportunities that come with being a John S. McCain Strategic Fellow, is working with the Defense Department on Russian-Ukraine issues.

Many adult learners first encounter University of Maryland Global Campus overseas—where it serves a largely military population—or in cyberspace, via online advertising or social media. This global footprint, though, belongs to a public university that has been firmly rooted in Maryland from the start and remains central to the state’s university system, academic goals, and economy.

With the recent hiring of Shalon Simmons as program director of cybersecurity technology, UMGC School of Cybersecurity and Information Technology now has three women, two of whom are women of color, leading key academic areas in the largest cyber program in the United States.
