The Honorable Jazz M. Lewis
Member, Maryland House of Delegates
Jazz M. Lewis is a lifelong resident of Maryland and has dedicated his life to giving back to it.
Lewis began his career as a community organizer in Baltimore. He credits his activities as an organizer with teaching him the power of collective action and the importance of cultivating personal relationships within a movement.
He then took his organizing skills to help elect candidates up and down the ballot who fought for the local community, working on campaigns and with candidates to promote a better, more inclusive Maryland.
In February 2017, Lewis was appointed to the Maryland House of Delegates, where he serves on the Appropriations Committee. As a delegate in Annapolis, Lewis has worked tirelessly to focus on the issues important to everyday Marylanders, sponsoring and supporting legislation to expand access to healthcare by subsidizing care in high-need neighborhoods, passing tax credits to incentivize grocery stores to open in food deserts, tackling the systemic inequities in the prison system, and supporting new opportunities for young people.
Lewis earned both his Bachelor of Arts in government and politics and Master of Public Policy degrees from University of Maryland, College Park. He and his wife and son live in Prince George’s County. He is currently running for Congress.
