Opening reception and artists talk set for August 30 

Adelphi, Md. — August 12, 2026 — The Arts Program at University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) will present Woven Threads: The Shared Translations of Judith Kornett and Virginia Sperry, an exhibition exploring the storytelling power of textile art through the work of two Maryland artists. The exhibition will be on view August 23–November 1, 2026, in the UMGC Arts Program Gallery in Adelphi, Maryland. 

Kicking off an exhibition season dedicated to textile art, Woven Threads examines how Kornett and Sperry use textile as their primary medium. While quilting may be one of the most familiar forms of textile expression, the exhibition highlights the breadth of the medium and the range of approaches artists use to create contemporary works in fiber. While Kornett’s fiber pieces tend to be more figurative and Sperry’s more abstract, both artists tell compelling stories through their work. 

“Woven Threads invites viewers to experience textile art as a powerful form of contemporary storytelling,” said Eric Key, director of UMGC’s Arts Program. “Judith Kornett and Virginia Sperry bring distinctive perspectives to fiber, creating works that inspire reflection and conversation.”

An opening reception and artists talk will be held Sunday, August 30, from 3 to 5 p.m. ET in the UMGC Arts Program Gallery. Key will serve as moderator of the artists talk.
