Consistent with its long history of serving the military community, University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) will observe National Hire a Veteran Day on July 25, 2026. To better understand the skills veterans bring to the workforce, UMGC asked employer partners who recruit veterans through university events to share what makes these candidates stand out.
Richard Moore, military outreach program manager at General Dynamics Mission Systems, said UMGC veterans are sought-after candidates because of their “real-world military operational experience, formally validated academic credentials in high-demand fields, leadership training tailored for military-to-civilian transitions, technical skills aligned with defense industry needs, and a resilient, mission-focused mindset.”
In addition to helping organizations fill critical positions quickly, employer partners who recruit UMGC student and alumni veterans cite several other advantages, including:
